Day 4: Amiri – A Day of Cultural Exchange, Reflection, and Reconnection

Today is a deeply immersive and emotional experience as we journey to Amiri, Imo State, for a day dedicated to cultural exchange, historical reflection, and spiritual reconnection.
Upon arrival, we will be welcomed with traditional Igbo hospitality, experiencing vibrant music, dance, and storytelling that bring the rich heritage of the Igbo people to life. The community will share their customs, including the significance of ancestral connections, traditional attire, and local delicacies.
A historian will take us through the origins of slavery, tracing the painful yet resilient history of our ancestors. This session is not just about remembering the past but about reclaiming our identity. We will hold a Reconciliation and Healing Ceremony, creating a sacred space to honor those who came before us and acknowledge our collective journey toward unity and healing.
One of the most moving moments of the day will be the Igbo Naming Ceremony, where participants will receive traditional Igbo names, symbolizing their reconnection to their ancestral roots. This powerful act of identity reclamation is a celebration of belonging, ensuring that we leave not just as visitors but as part of the extended Igbo family.
As the day closes, we return to our hotel for a reflective evening and a delicious dinner, carrying with us the deep emotions and meaningful connections forged throughout the day.
